The park and pond are part of the green belt around the northern and eastern pre-war neighborhoods De Hoogte, Korrewegwijk and Oosterparkwijk. In the expansion plans for the city of H.P Berlage and H.P.J. Schut dating from 1932, an eastern ring road was planned on the site of this belt. A large zone was reserved for this, also called the Berlage route, but the ring road was eventually scrapped. Water features were already drawn in the greenery that would separate the ring road from the residential areas, but the final shape of this differs greatly from the original. Source Wikipedia.
