"The first documented mention of the small Eifel community of Bleialf on the Belgian border was in 893 in the Prüm Urbar, a list of goods belonging to the Benedictine monastery in Prüm, in which all the rights and income of the monastery are listed. Bleialf owed its early wealth to a lead ore mine that was abandoned in 1856 The former tunnel was put back into operation by the local miners' association in 1987 as the "Mühlenberger Stollen" visitor mine and can be visited in summer or, as it is called in technical jargon, driven on.
