This is the oldest and largest red beech avenue in Northern Germany. The approximately 300-meter-long avenue has been under special protection since 1939, designated by the then district administrator.
Due to a missing enzyme, the leaves develop red leaves instead of the typical green leaf color. Thanks to this gene mutation, the avenue stands out with a wonderful play of colors, especially in spring.
