Atonement crosses in the "Beim Esslinger Bild" area in Köngen.

The original shape of the left cross corresponds exactly to the Denkendorf cross reliquary from the first half of the 12th century. The double cross of the neighboring Denkendorf Monastery, which also appears in the monastery's coat of arms, served as the model for the unique cross shape in Köngen. The second cross features a large, asymmetrical plowshare with a long point and a tall, tapered shaft. When and by whom the crosses were erected is unknown.

The two stone crosses that can be seen here are so-called atonement crosses. If crimes were committed a long time ago, the guilty had to erect such stone crosses as atonement for their crimes.
