The Riederstein (1207m) is a rock spur that can be seen from afar, approx. 150 meters above the Galaun Alm with the mountain inn there. Anyone who completes the well-known Stations of the Cross with its 14 display panels of Christ's suffering from 1897 and its approximately 500 steps definitely deserves a reward. The view of Tegernsee and the surrounding mountains from the small platform behind the chapel is definitely a worthy compensation for the effort.

According to a plaque inside the chapel, Josef Hupfauer, palace servant at Tegernsee Castle, erected a predecessor building in 1841/42 and expanded the chapel as early as 1850/51. The current state of construction was reached in 1863/64.

The chapel is just under five meters by two meters in size, and there is room for around ten to twelve people inside.

The floor of the chapel is covered with red Tegernsee marble, the lower third of the side walls are covered with light stone slabs, which were originally whitewashed. A commemorative plaque is embedded in each side wall. There are six kneelers in the room.

The altar is colored so that its wood leans against the red-marbled marble. A depiction of the Madonna of Altötting and a single votive tablet hang above the altar. In front of the altar is a wrought-iron grille with ornaments and rings.
