The Kocherfelsen are an interesting collection of rock formations.
Thick green slate rocks pile up here, and steps have been cut into them to make the ascent easier. This rock-strewn forest area is not only a hit with children who like to climb, but has also served well on many children's birthday parties as an expedition field, natural climbing wall and useful secret hiding place for scavenger hunts.
If you climb the rocks, you will find a lookout point on the height on the right hand side, which is laid out as such and provided with a railing. A bench invites you to linger, and there is also a place for a picnic. The view that opens up here falls directly on the Falkensteiner Castle opposite and is definitely one of the most beautiful that Falkenstein has to offer.
Already at the time of the Falkenstein Lung Sanatorium, opened in 1876 and founded by the doctor Dr. Peter Dettweiler, hiking trails were laid out in the forest area above the sanatorium. At that time, the therapies did not necessarily focus on isolating the sick, but instead prescribed long walks and hikes “in the strong mountain air” in the vicinity of Falkenstein.
