For runners participating in the Aabenraa Mountain Marathon, this sculpture by Keld Moseholm was created to provide reflection.

The sculpture uses satirical humor to illustrate the phenomenon of "hitting the wall," familiar to many runners.

Two of Keld Moseholm's signature small, fat sack men, made of bronze, are struggling to break through a 5-ton granite boulder.

One figure is seen from behind in a crouched position, on his way into the boulder, while the other runs upright, arms raised in celebration.

Moseholm's figures do not display well-trained bodies that live up to the athletic ideals of the time. The small, well-fed male tumblers have appeared repeatedly in his works since the 1980s in surreal scenarios in which they laboriously push stones over edges, pull each other up vertical surfaces, or, as here, defy all laws of nature and run through the wall.

The association behind the Aabenraa Mountain Marathon donated the sculpture to the municipality of Aabenraa on the occasion of the race's 10th anniversary in 2009.
