Prigny, is actually the old village of Moutiers-en-Retz, and this chapel was the first church of Moutiers, because until the end of the Middle Ages, Moutiers were only a simple suburb of Prigny. Located on the former shore of the Gulf of Machecoul, Prigny was then a fortified town overlooking the Breton marshes.
This building is now called a chapel by the inhabitants, simply because of its small size. Dating from the 11th century, the chapel of Prigny is a squat building in the primitive Romanesque style.
It is currently the subject of a restoration program.
