The first rays of the sun shine through the window. While consuming a hearty breakfast, stubborn fog banks are cleared up.
We are ready. Our steel carriage takes us to the ridge between the villages of Heyd and Fanzel.
Cole du Rideû, the only recognized Belgian mountain pass at 370 meters altitude, glows in the sun.
We are lucky to be here alone with 2 after a busy weekend..
Quietly, very quietly so as not to wake the 'Dragon', we start our adventure.
Along wide forest roads, under the shelter of deciduous and pine trees, we descend towards 'Devil's Bed'. The foliage suddenly turns a strong orange…
Is it the fiery morning yawn of the "Devil"? Through the capricious leafless branches we untangle the unslept 'Devil's Bed'. Is the Devil still out? Sounds of frightened, panicked lowing cows fill the valley.
To be on the safe side, we get rid of the hiking boots and walk back in stocking feet.
A narrow winding forest road, over rocky points, leads us over the sleeping 'Dragon's Back'.
The mossy rocks and trees bring peace to our minds and the forest. Only the rustle of fallen leaves betrays our retreat into the mysterious, enchanting setting.
Safe and sound we reach the top of Rideû without waking the snoring Dragon.
We succeeded… and the Devil feasts on fresh rump steak by the tail of the sleeping Dragon.
The morning really has gold in its mouth.
Our morning walk is over.
Lunchtime – strengthening inner person for the afternoon walk.
On to Wéris, together with a local guide Rolf, “Experience legends of Dolmen and Menhirs”.
Do you want to know how our afternoon walk went? These and other "Arduenna Experience" experiences can be found in my collection.
Enjoy reading.
