The catholic parish church with its onion dome, newly renovated inside and outside, belongs to the diocese of Bamberg. It is bright and also spacious with its two galleries. The organ in the choir and the Gothic altar catch the visitor's eye. The patroness of the church is Saint Gertrude, who died in 659 at the age of 33 during mass in Brabant in the church of Nivelles. The abbess is usually represented with a staff and a book, also on the high altar of the church. She is considered to be the messenger of spring and is often referred to as the "summer bride" or the "first gardener" during masses.
The four bells of the church, the Petrusglocke, the Marienglocke, the Ottilienglocke and the "poor sinners bell", which used to be rung for executions, sound for the millennium, which is celebrated in mid-May with a large medieval market.
