Hiking
The Kravaalbos is an ecologically valuable old-growth forest, characterized by its colorful spring flora. It is centrally located in the beautiful, gently rolling landscape between Aalst, Asse, and Opwijk. Here originate the streams that meander so charmingly through the landscape.
The forest is accessible year-round on the paths. Sturdy shoes are recommended. In rainy weather, the paths become muddy and difficult to navigate. Not accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

A bit of history...
The Kravaalbos covers an area of approximately 80 hectares and extends across the municipalities of Aalst (Meldert), Asse, and Opwijk (Mazenzele).
It is a remnant of the ancient "Koolwoud," which encompassed the Soignes Forest and the Halle Forest. The forest was known for its quarries, which were operated by Affligem Abbey from the 12th to the 16th centuries.
The forest consists of alder and willow trees, as well as chestnut, ash, and oak.
