There's a wooden bench on the dike here, inviting you to take a rest and enjoy the beautiful views.

Unfortunately, the bench was occupied for a longer period of time when I was here, so I couldn't take a photo of it.

The large meadows at the southern tip of Rømø are one of the 20 nature reserves of the Bird Protection Foundation, 36 hectares of untamed Wadden Sea and beach meadows,

which were acquired in 1991.

Natural beach meadows in front of the dikes are now a rarity throughout the Wadden Sea. The areas outside the dike are owned by the Bird Protection Foundation,

the Dike Association, private individuals, and the state. The sea dike, which limits storms, was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1923 after a devastating storm surge.

Since then, there hasn't been a breach. In the meadows, you can see the remains of the old mudflats (Prieler and Loer), which are so typical of the Wadden Sea.
