In 1585 the town of Schlackenwerth acquired the rule, but was expropriated in 1623 because of its participation in the uprising. The imperial general Julius Heinrich von Sachsen-Lauenburg became the new owner of the palace and estate. After a fire in 1691, the city palace was rebuilt to its current baroque form.[2]
