The history of the church is closely linked to the flourishing silver mining industry in the 16th century, which made the town one of the most important Bohemian settlement centres at the time with around 18,000 inhabitants. At first, the All Saints Church, on a slope southeast of the town centre, served as the parish church for the population. After they had introduced the Reformation in Joachimsthal in 1523, the Counts of Schlick had a new, representative church built with space for up to 3,000 visitors on a steep slope in the upper part of the town and had their burial place set up there. The construction work, which began with the laying of the foundation stone on the Monday after Trinity in 1534, was entrusted to the Joachimsthal master builder Hans Kopp. Pastor Johannes Mathesius took up his duties in the still unfinished church on November 25, 1537. Under the direction of the master builder Johann Münnich, the construction work was completed in 1540.

City church of St. Joachim and St. Anna in Sankt Joachimsthal (today: Jáchymov) in the Karlovy Vary region in the Czech Republic was built from 1534 to 1540 as the first Lutheran church in Bohemia. The original Renaissance building was consecrated in 1624 and redesigned in the late baroque style from 1764 to 1785. After a fire, from 1874 to 1876 it got its current Gothic style.

Churches are always worth a highlight. They offer hikers or bikers a place to rest and invite them to take a break.
