In addition to the forest path, you go ahead on a narrower path on the Mühlenweg. In late autumn, the "stream" is almost invisible from the many leaves.

Part of the Mühlgrabenweg runs parallel to a paved service road. This beautiful natural trail is definitely preferable.

Why does this mill race even exist? For this I found the following:

In 1720 it was decided to build a water ditch in order to be able to supply the electoral mill in Schwarzach with more water. The local chronicler Josef Fendl explains why. The mill was important: it produced the malt for the beer brewed in Schwarzach at the time. For the Mühlgraben, the master builders accomplished a masterly feat for the technical conditions of the time: the natural watercourse around the Hirschenstein had to be altered. "Water was supplied from the direction of Ödwies, which, according to the geographical conditions, would actually have flowed to Lindenau (Achslach municipality) and from the southern slopes of the Hirschenstein to Böbrach (Bernried municipality)," explains Josef Fendl. The water flowed around the Hirscheinstein mountain range towards Schwarzach and the local mill.
