At this point is the actual Tetzelstein, according to legend, a preacher of indulgences was buried under this stone in 1518.

When visiting the Tetzelstein, one always thinks of the large Tetzelstein monument in the park. It is not, it is a bit hidden at the beginning of the meadow!

Station 13 Tetzelstein of the hiking project "Experience Elm-Lappwald Nature Park" is hidden behind a hedge. A few steps further you will meet the actual Tetzelstein.
Also in the immediate vicinity is the forest restaurant, the mountain gymnastics festival memorial stone, the neo-Gothic monument and the 31st history of Till Eulenspiegel ... so quite a highlight!

Always a nice destination to start a hike from there 🥾 or to be served in the restaurant. Both are fun 😃.

A nice place to stay. But the Tetzelstein itself has to be found first and, to be honest, it is less attractive.

                  The Tetzelstein/Monument🎬Say:
                  1. The knight Hagen is said to have initially bought an indulgence from the indulgence preacher Tetzel for a deed that had yet to be committed. Later, relying on the indulgence granted, he killed Tetzel on the Elm and robbed him of his treasures. The Tetzelstein was built in memory of this act.
                  2. A nobleman from Küblingen shot and robbed a preacher of indulgences here, but had previously bought indulgences from him for a murderous act. The indulgence preacher was buried under the stone.🤗

With a total length of 1.36 m, the square Tetzelstein only protrudes 88 cm from the ground. It was first mentioned in a document in 1676 as the stone on the Großer Rode (the great clearing). In 1935 the stone was excavated and examined by the state archaeologist Hermann Hofmeister. It is made of Elm limestone quarried nearby. The location found was not the original one, and the stone was moved to its current, presumably original location in 1935. In 1839, when the “Hagenweg” to Warberg (now the Tetzelweg, which runs in an easterly direction) was made mobile, the stone was moved to the middle of the roundabout in front of the monument and surrounded with an iron grille in 1856.

Today the inconspicuous stone, surrounded by a hornbeam hedge, stands in a forest clearing on the Elm near the forest restaurant of the same name, which is a popular excursion destination.

somewhat inconspicuously located between the parking lot and the restaurant, but with a detailed explanatory board

Nice round hiked through the Elm. Very relaxed trails and mostly walked in the woods.
