Hiking

The settlement of Söll dates back to 600 AD. Old farms in the name of "-ing" prove the age of the community. First mentioned in documents in 1153-1156 the courtyards (Nieder-) Straß ("Strazz") in the district of Söller Pirchmoos in a tradition of the monastery Herrenchiemsee. The first written mention of the place was not until 1217, when the diocese Chiemsee has been established. At this time, the name was "Sel", 1480 then "Seel" and from 1615 "Söll". The name "Sel" probably comes from the Middle High German word "selida", which means as much as hostel, place or house.
