Today the convent houses a small community of Franciscan Conceptionist nuns but in its beginnings it belonged to the Carmelite Reform. Santa Teresa de Jesús was called by the princes of Éboli and went to Pastrana together with two nuns to found the convent. On June 23, 1569, the Descalzas monastery was inaugurated in the ‘Cuadrilla de la Castellana’ with the title of Our Lady of Consuelo.
