Located in what was, in medieval times, the center of the town: where the Council was, where the market, Corpus dances and even bullfights were held in the 16th century. It was the point of confluence of long radial streets that started from the main gates of the walled enclosure. The square was then known as the Market Square or the Plaza de Arriba.
