The place Zollbrücke came into being after the regulation of the Oder. In 1755 the first settlers built a wooden bridge over the Oder and demanded customs to cross the bridge. The resulting place was named after the bridge. In 1806 an ice flood destroyed the bridge. It became dilapidated and replaced by a ferry, which was discontinued in 1945 after the Second World War. The Deichscharte remained as an opening and became the landmark of the flood protection in the Oderbruch.
The 1997 flood severely damaged the toll bridge. After the flood, the dike was moved around six meters in the direction of the Oder at the height of the dam master's house. The old dyke had to be removed during the construction work. A new notch was created, the sole of which was reinforced with iron and filled with a special concrete. The side walls were faced with clinker bricks and a railing. At this point the dike is one meter higher than the previously measured high water level of 9.55 m above sea level on March 22, 1940.
