The winding tower and the wagons on the market square in Höhn are still a reminder of Höhn's almost 300-year mining history.
The first mining operation was opened in 1651 in the forest near today's Schönberg district. At its peak, up to a thousand miners were employed in the Höhn Alexandria mine before operations were stopped for economic reasons in 1961.
The winding tower and the wagons were originally used in the Alexandria mine.
