The Gesteiger Gate is one of the three surviving city gates. It is also called Nuremberg Gate, Taltor, or Untertor. Privately owned since 1810, before that in the possession of the Landkeeper's Office in 1708, at times the gate was the servant's apartment and prison.

Until 1708 it was owned by the Nuremberg Land Conservation Office and housed the town servant's apartment. At times it was also used as a prison. From 1810 the building was privately owned.
The Gesteiger Gate was taken over by the Friends of the Old Town in 2008, restored in-house and originally preserved in accordance with monument protection. Until the renovation of the Kräusselhaus, the Gesteiger Gate was also home to the Ritter Wirnt Museum, the meeting room of the Friends of the Old Town and the archive of the association. These have now moved to the larger premises of the Kräusselhaus
It was also known as Nuremberg Gate, Untertor or Taltor in the city's past.Source: altstadtfreun.de/projekt/gesteiger-tor
