Location: Bornholm, Capital Region of Denmark, Denmark
The herd is part of the European bison (Wisent) conservation program. In 1919 there were only 54 bison left in zoos. Today's population is around 3,000 animals, of which around 10 live on Bornholm. Since the area is very large at 200 hectares, you need some time and luck to see the animals. Rules of conductThe bison must not be disturbed in their environment. Therefore, never scare the animals. Always keep at least 100m away. Do not feed the animals. Do not make noise. Put your dogs on a leash. And never walk between the mother and the calf.As the animals can be aggressive with newborn calves, the area may be closed to visitors after births in May/June.
