The beautiful lighthouse of Cabo de Palos began operating in 1865. Originally its shape and construction was different, it was demolished a few years before and rebuilt on the foundations, finishing in 1865. Today you can get closer and as usual in lighthouses, the views they are simply wonderful!

Despite being in good condition, the old Renaissance tower was demolished in 1862.
The works on the new lighthouse were completed in 1864. No detailed and exact description can be found of this, only the presented receipt of the works on December 18, 1864, signed by the chief engineer Juan Moreno Rocafull.
The lighthouse became operational on January 31, 1865.
On the ground floor, the building has the shape of a square with a side length of 20 meters. It consists of two floors and the height of the building to the top of the parapet is 11.60 meters.2 The facade walls are made of hard stone masonry and are 65 centimeters thick in the base, 60 cm in the rest of the first floor and 50 cm in the second. The tower is located in the middle and first consists of a prismatic 12.50 meters high. In the upper part and at a height of 43 meters the capital of the tower and a large molding formed by a projecting cornice, supported by 16 corbels. A tower of 2.20 by 3.20 meters rises on the cornice
The focal plane of the lighthouse has a height of 51 meters above the ground and 81 meters above sea level. It emits a white light in groups of 2 flashes every 10 seconds and has a nominal night range of about 24 nautical miles.
