This protected space has a rich history regarding the production of salt ("white gold") that marked an era in the area of Cartagena and the Mar Menor.
At the end of the 19th century, the salt industry was established, which over the years lost momentum due to low productivity and became a mainly tourist area with a real estate boom.
Today it is a beautiful place to visit and tour where you can still appreciate some constructions from the salt era and also spot native birds.
