Kortgene completely disappeared in the waves during a flood in the 16th century. At the end of the 17th century, the village was reclaimed and a church was built. Only the church tower was preserved during the floods. The 15th-century church tower is therefore the oldest monument on Noord-Beveland.

Kortgene, commonly called Kortjeen, is the only place on Noord-Beveland that has city rights and is therefore actually a narrow town. It is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts.
      The history of Kortgene
Kortgene disappeared entirely into the waves during a flood in the 16th century. At the end of the 17th century, the village was reclaimed and given a church. Only the church tower was preserved during the floods. The 15th-century church tower is therefore the oldest monument in Noord-Beveland.
      Grass drying plant
A household name for Kortgene and the surrounding area is the grass drying plant. You can see the chimneys and condensation plumes from afar. And if the wind direction is correct, you will also smell a typical odor that is released during drying. In the drying plant, alfalfa is dried and processed into pellets and bales of animal feed.
Due to its location on the Veerse Meer, Kortgene has developed as a tourist attraction. This is reflected in the many shops and terraces in the village. The Delta Marine port has approximately 700 berths, which attracts many water sports enthusiasts to Kortgene.

Kortgene, in the vernacular Kortjeen, was the only place on Noord-Beveland the city rights received and is thus actually a so-called "Smalstad". It is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts.

Kortgene sank in a flood disaster in the 16th century in the floods. At the end of the 17th century, the village was repopulated and got a new church, because during the flood, only the church tower was preserved. This church tower from the 15th century is therefore the oldest monument on Noord-Beveland.
