Around 1870, at the instigation of the Spindler brothers, a ferry connection was established between Eichhorn and Grünau, where the Grünau train station on the Görlitz railway was completed in 1866. Around 1880, the Wendenschlößchen restaurant was built near the ferryman because the old ferry house was no longer sufficient. The new restaurant later gave the Eichhorn the name Wendenschloß.
This ferry was supported by the Spindler brothers not entirely selflessly, as it greatly shortened the route to the former Spindler tower and today's Müggel tower via the Müggelbergallee, which was probably also built around this time.
The ferry house housed an inn and the Zur Wendeschleife restaurant. Next door was the turning area for the carriages that took visitors to the Müggelberge. As this inn was bursting at the seams one day, the new Wendenschlößchen inn was built a little further away, but it no longer exists.
