The former British base is a harmonious ensemble of extensive deciduous and coniferous forests, interspersed with open grasslands, heathland, marshes, and scrub.

Historical value
The proposed landscape includes several historically significant elements: the area surrounding Den Troon and the (demolished) Kalkhovenhof, several old road connections that were cut off by the Albert Canal from Goorhof, Meergoren, and Wolfste, and the route of the filled-in Kempen Canal between Herentals and Grobbendonk.
