“Take me with you” says the sign next to the bank, which is painted red in Mönsheim's coat of arms. They are adorned with flowers, bees and fire salamanders as well as the Mönsheim symbolic figure Buchele.
No, this is not just a seat for tired strollers. This and the nine other red benches that Mönsheim has now set up at suitable stopping points throughout the municipality are so-called passenger benches. They are intended to be “a further component in the community's mobility concept”, as Mayor Thomas Fritsch put it at the presentation.
And it works like this: if you want to go from the cemetery at the entrance to the village or the Iptinger Straße to the outdoor pool, to the Appenbergsporthalle or to the discounters in Gödelmann, for example, you have to walk quite a long way in the long place. So he sits down on the bench, folds out the sign saying “Take me with you” and hopes that friendly neighbors, fellow citizens or drivers will stop.
