The American base at Havelterberg was an army base of the American army on the border of the Dutch villages Havelterberg and Darp (province of Drenthe). A watchtower serves as a memorial.
Between 1961 and 1992, nuclear warheads were (most likely) stored here for the Dutch field artillery. First there were warheads for the 'Honest John' missile, later for the Lance missile. The 'Lance' missile could be equipped with the W70 warhead (neutron bomb). The total power of the Havelterberg arsenal was about 80 times that of the Hiroshima bomb.
