Friedrich Froebel is considered a great child friend. It was important to him that the children were encouraged from an early age and not just placed in custody, as was customary at the time. So today he is considered the inventor of the "kindergarten".
To train fine motor skills, he also invented the famous Froebel stars.

Friedrich Fröbel, who founded the world's first kindergarten in Blankenburg in 1840, is buried here. His concept and his furnishings were a triumph around the world. In fact, the term is simply "kindergarten" in English. Fröbel was a great friend of children and also invented six toys. These are basic figures that were intended to promote early childhood education and motor skills. The first three of these toys form his gravestone: a ball, a cylinder and a cube. Friedrich Fröbel founded the first training center for kindergarten teachers in Schweina in 1850 before he died two years later in Marienthal Castle.
