The fountain consists of an octagonal basin with cartouches of the coats of arms of the seven princely cities of Upper Austria (Enns, Freistadt, Gmunden, Linz, Steyr, Vöcklabruck and Wels) created by Josef Huber on the side walls. The central pillar is made of white marble and shows four water-spouting lion heads between four volutes and above them four water-spouting dolphins. A statue of Neptune created by Johann Spatz gave the fountain its name. But the statue is missing

The octagonal fountain dates from the 17th century. The first sculptures and the statue of Neptune were designed by Johann Baptist Spatz. After the fountain was moved in 1872, we can now admire it again in its original place. The empty fields on the side walls were filled in 1979 by the sculptor Josef Huber with the coats of arms of the seven princely cities of Linz, Steyr, Wels, Gmunden, Vöcklabruck, Freistadt and Enns.

A very beautiful fountain at the southern end of the main square.
