The German House is one of the oldest houses in the monastery town of Rehna.
Even if the house can only guess at its original size today, the origin can be seen on closer inspection. The container spacing is 1.8 to 2 meters and still indicates a roof covering made of straw. The approximately four meter high ground floor accommodates the large hall in the rear area.
The house is a hostel for the martens man. This custom is first mentioned in 1520. Every year on Martin's Day the Mecklenburg princes are sent a ton (barrel) of wine so that they can get along.
Today the German House is used as the town's club house and houses the Rehna town library.de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rehna

The German House is one of the oldest houses in the monastery town of Rehna in the north-west Mecklenburg district. The half-timbered building is located on Bundesstraße 104 in Gletzower Straße 15 and is a listed building.According to Dehio, the core of the half-timbered house on the gable dates from 1537. It refers to a lost inscription. According to the city website, however, the felling date of the oaks used was dated to the winter of 1569/70. The upper and attic storeys protrude through studs. Fan rosettes were used as a decorative element on the upper floor. At ground level, on the street side, an utlucht projected during a renovation in the middle of the 18th century protrudes. Inside, the original high hall and the house tree have been preserved. The inscription in the gable beam, which is partly covered by the Utlucht, could provide information about the builder. It reads: “IS GOD FOER VNS.) WHO WIL WEDDER VNS SIN. ALL THINGS FIRST. GADES GRADE EW (IG) STANDS UP. HANS. SEEHASE. “Behind it is a house brand with a cross-crowned triangle, a razor and a pair of scissors, which can also be found on a tombstone of the barber and surgeon Hans Seehase in the Kröpeliner church that was erected in 1577.The German House received additions on all four sides in the 17th century. In the 19th and 20th centuries it was used as a blacksmith's and pub licensed and during this time it was inhabited almost exclusively by the Grevismühl family. The protection as a monument in 1949 was followed by restoration in 1952/53. After the fall of the Wall, a subsidized renovation was carried out in several construction phases from 1998 to 2003.
The city library has had its seat in the German House since 2004. The Low German Association to Rehna e. V., the Maurine-Radegast e. V. and the people's solidarity.
