Shortly before the pilgrimage route from Wittlich to Klausen entered the Mundwald, an informative group of testimonies to popular piety from the 17th to 20th centuries has been preserved, two chapels and two crossroads; they form a monument zone.
One of them is the Holy Cross Chapel. It stands on a small hill and can be reached via a staircase.
It is a roughly square chapel open on three sides. The curved hood rests on the rear wall and two pillars that were placed on the surrounding parapet wall. Inside the chapel, built by Conrad Wolff in 1712, a mighty predella rises above a high plinth, decorated with a representation of a lamentation in the Klausen style; [= Base of an altarpiece] above a crucifixion group protrudes far into the roof structure. Inscription on the base.
It is also called "the chapel of the 14 helpers in need".

The small staircase made me curious and the short moment of this day while resting and looking awakened anticipation of the further course of the path.
