At Baraque Michel, the former border between the Kingdom of the United Netherlands (from 1830 the Kingdom of Belgium) and the Kingdom of Prussia ran through the middle of the High Fens, along the former Roman road (La Vêcquée). Numbered boundary stones marked the former border in accordance with the decisions of the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Many of these boundary stones are still preserved today.
