El Chalten is the ideal starting point for hikes (half, full or several days) in the northern part of the National Park Los Glaciares. There is no entrance fee, but you should definitely check in at the Visitor Center on arrival in El Chalten. Here you get maps and information about the weather, campsites and the contact with the Parkrangern. For example, On a hike to the Laguna Toro you have to register, on other full-day tours is a preliminary information on the weather is highly recommended.
