The lake, which was created in 1976 by the former Rhein-Main-Donau AG as a compensation basin and is fed by the Sindersbach of the same name, was designated as a recreation area and official swimming lake until 1981.
For five years, the water watch monitored the bathing operations, there was a toilet truck and even a kiosk. Many visitors from near and far had their bathing fun here in summer.
After a fatal accident in the lake, the city of Gemünden issued the swimming ban, which is still in force today, in 1981.
