Most likely built on a previous place of worship of early Christian origins, the Pieve di Bigonzo is one of the oldest existing churches in Vittorio Veneto. Its construction dates back to between the 4th and 5th centuries, at the time of the Martyrdom of Santa Augusta. Rebuilt in Romanesque style, it was rededicated for the first time in July 1303. Between the 15th and 16th centuries the rich interior decorations were completed, with the collaboration of local artists such as Antonio Zago, Iseppo da Cividale and Francesco da Milano. The powerful parish gradually declined with the construction of other places of worship which dismembered the territory. On 21 November 1865 it was reduced to a curacy and only returned to being a parish on 12 December 1947.
