The chapel is a Russian Orthodox church building that was consecrated in 2003. Originally, the chapel was a log cabin from Folldal from the mid-18th century. It belonged to the Orthodox monk Father John Føien and was located on his farm in Folldal.
Saint Olav the Holy was canonized in 1031, before a major schism in the church in 1054. Therefore, he is also considered a saint in Russian Orthodox history.

Hiking

The Orthodox Church in Norway worked for several years on plans to build an Orthodox chapel in Stiklestad. The work picked up speed in 2013 when the Holy Olga Congregation in Oslo received an offer from the Orthodox monk father Jonah Føien to take over an Orthodox chapel that stood on his farm in Folldal and was consecrated to Saint Olav in 2003.
