It is the epitome of Hof's lifestyle and identity: the Wärschtlamo. Since 1871, more than 150 years ago, the Wärschtlamo men, with their mobile sausage vendors selling sausages from charcoal-fired brass kettles, have been a part of the cityscape. A total of five Wärschtlamen (44 in 1932) still sell authentic Hofer Wärscht today, distributed throughout Hof's pedestrian zone, with the typical sign "Haaß sensa, kold wernsa!" (Haast sensa, kold wernsa!). In 1955, a monument to the Wärschtlamo was erected on Sonnenplatz. The Hof building authorities chose the model by Hof artist Alfred Pflügner. The model was cast in expensive ox-head porphyry.

Always something delicious in their kettles.
They can be found throughout the city.

Haaß sensa, kold wernsa, is what the Hofer's somewhat subtle humor means when it comes to their body and stomach food, the "Wienerla", which are not as small as the Franconian "la" in Woet leads to believe. From the Oberer Torplatz to the Lorenzkirche, the warden men and women stand and sell their hot goods, which have been eaten with pleasure since industrialization.
