Schlierbach was first mentioned in a document in 1193 as Slirbach. In 1448 the place was devastated and partly turned into forest, in 1575 it was mentioned again as a village. Schlierbach had belonged to the Waltersbrück court since the Middle Ages. In 1569 the village placed itself under Hessian protection and was administered by the Borken office, in 1814 it came to the Jesberg office and in 1821 to the Fritzlar district, which in 1932 became part of the Fritzlar-Homberg district (renamed Fritzlar-Homberg district in 1939) and in 1974 to the Schwalm-Eder district. On December 31, 1971, the previously independent municipality of Schlierbach was incorporated into the new municipality of Neuental.
