A real highlight is to visit the Schlossberg with its castle ruins and the observation tower. The circular paths offer magnificent views of nature and the landscape and allow you to learn about history. It is particularly nice to go up the alleyway via the “Pförtchen” next to the town hall, right next to the local history museum... A delight, especially when the larch spurs are in bloom, and in summer in the dark when the fireflies are lighting up. Every now and then there are historical and musical events (Rock at the Castle directly!), as well as other events such as theatre performances and knight games (Medieval Market). The all-round panoramic view is very far and gigantic in good weather conditions. For me, the half-timbered town always looks most impressive from up on the tower, with its urban areas and the core town that has grown together behind its walls and the Freiheit, Stellberg, Osterbach and the “Bahnhofsviertel” as well as the merged districts of Holzhausen and almost too Cassdorf and Mardorf. Nevertheless, the former civil service and school town remains tranquil and romantic, with a bit more market activity and creativity in terms of sustainability, it would be my first choice. There were and still are plenty of artists and bright minds here!

Be sure to visit the Klimmstein (nature and views) and the Mosenberg (glider airfield)! Each village around Homberg has its own charm and focal point, as it's a cluster of villages, and the "Homberger Platt" dialect is a little different in each place. Don't miss the opportunity to purchase regional specialties at the farm shops, such as the authentic North Hessian AHLE WORSCHT. It's delicious served on fresh, crispy sourdough slices with onion rings, or on its own, air-dried, smoked, or freshly soft. Personally, I like it best "rock-hard, eaten out of the hand with a sandwich"!
