After the largest of the three ponds in Witten has been drained, wild growth has become widespread.
Lush green now covers the terrain, where for many years a fairly large expanse of water stretched. The last of the three ponds in the beech wood is thus finally past.
The green, which now sprouts abundantly on the former large pond bottom, in which the Borbach has already fought back to its own bed, is pure wild growth.
The rear, much smaller ponds had been overshadowed by trees for decades. The only larger clear point in the deep Borbach valley was the large pond.
A small body of water on the edge of the Borbach offers amphibians such as grass frog and common toad a breeding ground for reproduction. The pond is part of the old pond system and is fed at high tide by the passing stream.

The renaturation has now been completed and nature is taking back its part. But still a nice place to rest.
