The old island church is the second oldest church on an East Frisian island. It was built in 1826. Before that, a storm surge had destroyed most of the island's houses. A total of four churches had already fallen victim to the so-called "Blanken Hans". The church is now used for lectures, weddings and baptisms in small groups.

During the season (Easter to Reformation Day), evening services are held in the small church on Mondays and Fridays at 7.30 p.m.
