In 1882/1883, today's neo-Romanesque Michael's Church was built under the direction of the architect Robert Reinhardt. The red sandstone from the local Buntsandstein was used to create an oversized church (with 623 seats for around 804 Protestants at the time) - the Wimsheim Cathedral, as the residents affectionately call their place of worship.
