The flue gas fireplace is a technical monument on the Bastenberg near Ramsbeck. It is a high above the place standing fireplace (chimney) of the historic Ramsbecker Büttütte.

In 1835, the Ramsbecker union built a new rental lodge. In 1854, this hut was extended and connected to a newly built flue gas fireplace on the Bastenberg. The fireplace was used until the closure of the metallurgical plant in 1907.

The poisonous exhaust gases of the Ramsbecker Büttütte meandered through a partly double-barreled, double-flue, flue-gas channel up the Bastenberg and then through the flue gas fireplace into the earth's atmosphere. The lead white precipitated in the fox was collected and used as a basic substance for paint production.

The approximately 20 m high, after about 10 m height gradually tapered flue gas fireplace with square cross-section consists of yellow-brown slate material. The associated flue gas duct is still partially preserved.

In the summertime, the fireplace is marked by a visible flag in the Valmetal, in the Christmas time by a lit Advent star.

This is a former chimney for toxic flue gases from the smelting of lead and zinc from the nearby mine. You can look up from the inside but not up onto the platform.

This is where the toxic gases were released into the air.
