A beautiful medieval gate, rebuilt in 1760 – 71 years after its destruction by fire. Remnants of the city wall can still be seen towards Turmberg along the path "Am Stadtgraben" (At the City Moat).
The Basel Gate likely dates back to the 14th century and secured access from the south until the mid-19th century. It was named for its role as the gateway to Basel, where the Margraves maintained a secondary residence (city palace).

The tower at the Basel Gate is the last remaining tower of the Durlacher city wall. Normally it is not accessible, but it is regularly open to visitors on the day of the open monument.
