Best Hikes to Pfalzgrafenstein Castle

Tips

  • Since its construction in 1327, the castle near Kaub has been enthroned on a rocky reef in the middle of the Bacharacher Engtal, where the Rhine has also been called "Wild Danger" or "Wild Ride" since the 15th century. As a guard station, it secured the Kauber toll - a lucrative source of income for its various feudal lords. Pfalzgrafenstein Castle can only be reached from Kaub by passenger ferry.
