History of the community of Wiebelsheim

The place Wiebelsheim is likely to have originated between 800 and 1000 AD as one of the first settlements on the heights of the Hunsrück, since in other areas places with the ending "heim" are known as Franconian local foundations at this time.

The history of the place is closely linked to that of Oberwesels. Around 1400 Wiebelsheim was added to the altar pillars created in Damscheid in 1392, but within the framework of the two Oberwesel large parishes of Liebfrauen and St. Martin, the latter of which Wiebelsheim belonged to. In 1786 the parishioners from Wiebelsheim were obliged to take part in the St. Mark's procession in Oberwesel, and at the same time they also contributed to the construction of the new parish house in St. Martin.
