During a mission to bomb factories near Kassel-Bettenhausen (DE), the B17 A/C 42-5829 "Flying Jenny" crashed here on July 30, 1943 at 08:15. The aircraft was attacked on the way back by German anti-aircraft guns (FLAK) and fighters and shot down by NCO Gerd Wiegand (8/JG26) in a Fw 190. 4 crew members were killed and the other 6 were taken prisoner.
